This is a very challenging, fun project. I'm still not sure how to choose between a couple different formats: a straight up list of the best films not on your list? That's good, though it ends up heavy on the auteurs... the other way might be to try to start in 1910 and come to the present, picking the best film I've seen from every year not on your lists. I can't decide. I think I'll go with the years, since it gives more external form - a bit of arbitrariness seems helpful. (Though maddening - as early as 1912 I have to choose between a delightful Winsor McKay and Musketeers of Pig Alley...) Anyway, here it is:
